The purpose of the employmentlawireland website is to bring you summaries of a selection of decisions and determinations of the Employment Appeals Tribunal (EAT).
The objective is to provide a convenient resource to employers, employees, legal practitioners, and anyone with an interest in the latest employment law cases by summarizing decided cases of interest and which might be helpful for both employers and employees with issues in this are.
The decisions of the Employment Appeals Tribunal commence towards the end of October, 2012.
The summaries of decisions published on http://EmploymentLawIreland.ie will be chosen based on a number of criteria to ensure a broad range of claims under the various employment acts such as Unfair Dismissal Redundancy Payments, Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, Terms of Employment Act, Payment of Wages Act, and so forth.
The purpose is to provide a good indication of the thinking and criteria by which the EAT arrives at it’s decisions with the ultimate goal of assisting employers avoid expensive and costly claims.
The law surrounding employment in Ireland poses significant risks and expense for employers with successful claimants being awarded significant sums under the Unfair Dismissals Act, Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment, Redundancy Payments Acts, and so forth.
